Wednesday 16th October

Satellite images were unavailable all day from the www.nottingham.ac.uk/meteosat/D2.JPG web site. Therefore, to obtain weather information for Offwell, it was necessary to use reports from the UK weather station at Dunkeswell and 6 hourly satellite pictures from www.bbc.co.uk/weather.

Graph 2

In Cardiff, the rain was lighter than on the previous day and the strong winds had become a gentle breeze; nonetheless there was persistent cloud cover.  The temperature remained at 7.5°C for the first two readings of the day. By 13:00hr the temperature had risen to 9°C; the wind had dropped and little rain was falling. At 15:00hr the sun was trying to break through and the temperature rose accordingly to 10°C. By 17:00hr it had clouded over again and the temperature dropped to 9.5°C As darkness fell, the temperature dropped to 8.25°C at 19:00hr.

The weather at Offwell was cloudy all day, possibly thinning towards the latter part of the day. The temperature at Offwell stayed very steady all day. By 11:00hr it had only risen by 0.4°C. At 13:00hr the cloud was clearing and the temperature had reached 10.6°C. The cloud cover continued to clear until at 15:00 hr, the temperature reached its peak of 10.7°C. The temperature continued to drop to 9.7°C at 19:00 hr.

Both sites had cloud cover all day, varying only in its thickness. Their temperatures were more similar than the previous day; the maximum temperature at Cardiff was 10°C and at Offwell 10.7°C. The temperature range for Cardiff was 2.5°C and for Offwell only 1°C, indicating that there was only a slight variation in temperature on this particular day.
