Bracken

Magpie Moth on Bracken. Bracken was present on the project site, but was not a problem. It occurred mainly in the northern and southern sections directly adjacent to woodland.

Bracken can be a potential problem on heathland sites. Bracken was initially only present in sections 1 and 2, but it had spread by 1998 and was found with a relatively low frequency over most of the project site (Figures below).

Its mean % cover increased in 1997, but declined to a very low level in 1998 (Figures below). Its greatest abundance was in the sections bordering the woodland (1,2 and 8,9).
