Ripening berries of Tutsan (Hypericum androsaemum).  Tutsan is the only member of the St John's Wort family in Britain to produce a fleshy berry,  all the others bear seeds inside a dry capsule.  The berries ripen from green through red to black in Autumn as shown in the image above.  Tutsan is a medium sized undershrub that stays partly green through the winter.  It is usually found in shady areas in woodland.   The flowers are about 20mm across, yellow and have five petals and lots of stamens. The stems can be reddish in colour.  The leaves are quite broad and oval and give off a rich smell when crushed.
