August Meeting 2004

A wet evening!

Meeting held on the night of the 20th August 2004
In the Village of Offwell, Devon, SW England

1 x 125 W trap at Woodland Close,
2 x  125 W traps and 1actinic at the Village Hall Playing Fields
1 x 125 W trap opposite the Church, from 21:30 to 22:30 hrs

Weather: High winds, cloudy, light rain, cold.

Summary

The weather was pretty unenticing for both moths and people! It began to rain just as all the moth traps had been set up and continued raining until they were dismantled roughly one hour later. As a consequence, relatively few moths were recorded.

Nevertheless 42 moths from 14 different species were trapped, illustrating that some moths will still fly even in light rain.

The most common moth was the Large Yellow Underwing (see below), with a total of 14 individuals.
