The Viewpoint

Situated at one of the highest points on the reserve and looking west over the valley is the Viewpoint.  Formerly covered in thick Rhododendron jungle, this cleared area now offers a view across the valley and the tree tops to a Forestry Commission conifer plantation about 1 mile away.  Because the Viewpoint hillside faces south west and the rhododendron has been cleared, more light reaching ground level has meant that the flora here has made a recovery (see photograph).   Bracken, Gorse and Bramble are the most prolific ground species to make a return.
