House Martin       Delichon urbica

Appearance A compact black and white swallow-like bird, blue-black on the crown and back, with black wings and tail. It has a very prominent white rump and pure white underparts. 
Size: 12-13cm tall
Voice Harsh chirrup, quite unlike other swallow-like birds.
Habitat Towns and inland freshwater.
Food Flying insects.
Breeding Habits 4-5 eggs in a mud dome under the eaves of house roofs, nests in colonies.
Location in Wet Woodland A flock of around 10-15 birds very often fed on flying insects over the wet woodland.  Visible more often on dry, warmer days.
